Phone Firmwares

• For Cisco ATA, the filename begins with AT.

• For Cisco ATA, the filename begins with AT.

• Cisco IP Communicator v 2.0(2) and higher supported.

• nnnn represents the major version, x-y-z represents the version

• Cisco Unified IP Phone 6921/6941/6961

• For Cisco Unified IP Phone 7002, 7905, and 7912, the filename can begin with CP.

• Cisco Unified IP Phone 7940G and 7960G
• Support multiple files.
• SCCP firmware—P003xxyyzzww, where x represents the major version, y represents the major subversion, z represents the maintenance version, and w represents the maintenance subversion.
• The third character in a filename—Represents the protocol, “0” for SCCP or “S” for SIP.

• Cisco Unified IP Phone 7940G and 7960G
• Support multiple files.
• SIP firmware—P0S3-xx-y-zz, where x represents the major version, y represents the minor version, and z represents the subversions.
• The third character in a filename—Represents the protocol, “0” for SCCP or “S” for SIP.

• Cisco Unified IP Phone 7910

• Cisco Unified IP Phone Expansion Module 7914

• Cisco Unified IP Phone Expansion Module 7915
• To support a 7915 or 7916 Expansion Module, IP phones must have firmware 8-3-5 or a later version. The 7915 and 7916 Expansion Modules are supported only on the 7962, 7965, and 7975.

• Cisco Unified IP Phone Expansion Module 7916
• To support a 7915 or 7916 Expansion Module, IP phones must have firmware 8-3-5 or a later version. The 7915 and 7916 Expansion Modules are supported only on the 7962, 7965, and 7975.

• For Java-based IP phones, such as the Cisco Unified IP Phone 7911, 7941, 7941GE, 7961, 7961GE, 7970, and 7971, the firmware consists of multiple files including JAR and tone files.
• All of the firmware files for each phone type must be downloaded the TFTP server before they can be downloaded to the phone.
• SCCP firmware—TERMnn.xx-y-z-ww or SCCPnn.xx-y-zz-ww, where n represents the phone type, x represents the major version, y represents the major subversion, z represents the maintenance version, and w represents the maintenance subversion.

• Cisco Unified Video Advantage 1.0(2), 2.0 and higher supported with Cisco Unified IP Phone 7931, 794X, 796X, and 797X, and Cisco IP Communicator

We can remove the load commands if we don't need to upgrade the firmware.

Configure cnf file location to flash

• The cnf file will be created in this location.
• Also when configuring the load commands, it will look for the firmware file in this location
  • If the firmware is in the root of flash, the tftp binding will also be created automatically.
• If you set the cnf location to flash but the sccp firmware is not located in the root directory, it will take a lot longer to create the cnf files.

Load firmware

• Case sensitive
• If no phone load is specified, the current phone load of the phone is used
• In Cisco Unified CME 7.0/4.3 and earlier versions, do not use the file suffix (.bin, .sbin, .loads) for any phone type except the Cisco ATA and Cisco Unified IP Phone 7905 and 7912.
• In Cisco Unified CME 7.0(1) and later versions, you must use the complete filename, including the file suffix, for phone firmware versions later than version 8-2-2 for all phone types
